Poject Two: Upcycling

The hanging lamp is basing on the shape of a sea snail, it made by two separate parts. A complex mirrored form and a simple form, in order to creating a nice combination of simple and complex. Besides, the lighting from the inside part, which highlighting the outside curve.  The dark light also provides a feeling of mysterious.
My first inspiration comes from the Asian traditional lantern, then I started to play with the paper, and instead of cutting paper in the same length, I decided to cut in different length.  However, because I still want to keep some traditional sense in the lamp, in order to combine eastern and western cultural. Therefore, I used red as the color in the simple form.
The package of this lamp doesn’t take much space, because the flat package only made by three flat pieces of paper. I used string to hold the paper, and the way to make the shape of lamp is to pull the string tightly.  The steps are easy and no professional skills required.

  1. your light is very elegant and exhibits the cuts very beautifully . the way the material is wrapped around its self and the contrast between the plain unperforated material is clever . im unsure of the way the light is assembled and how easy it would be to disassemble . more explotation into the joining of the material may have been beneficial . but well done it looks great :)

  2. amazing light, i like the way which you present the curve shape. Nice colour choice, red is very suitable for the light. The combination of the two layers work well, like you said simple and complex. And the layers make the light bulb not obvious.
In my opinion, i think the lamp would looks better if you do it in bigger size.

  3. as what Eugenie said, your lamp is so amazing and elegant. since the color pieces you chose, it has the ideal combination with the warm illumination. that is why I was attracted by it on the poster.
in my opinion, is it you should pay more attention about how the lighting coming through? although it has the good combination, but it seems a little bit dark, not that well for illumination. a good lamp design not only focus on what it looks like, but also its function.
    but, well done!!
